The Rice Paddy Navy: U.S. Sailors Undercover in China (General Military)
The Rice Paddy Navy is a top-secret network of American servicemen, Chinese guerrillas, and "individualists" that worked together to fight the Japanese occupation of China during WWII.
With nearly 3,000 members, including 97,000 organized Chinese guerrillas and 20,000 "individualists," SACO (Sino-American Cooperative Organization) provided critical information to the U.S.
military, rescued over seventy-five downed aviators, and contributed to the felling of more than 26,000 Japanese.
Despite losing only five of their own men, SACO was one of the best-kept secrets of the war.
This book tells the story of Captain Milton "Mary" Miles and his team's bravery and determination in the face of military attacks, harsh conditions, dangerous weather, and political in-fighting.
With unprecedented intelligence and training provided to the Allies, SACO helped build bridges between the Americans and the Chinese in a fight for the security of Asia.
