The Japanese Trapdoor Snail is a hardy, attractive snail that makes an easy and useful addition to any plant aquarium, pond or fish tank! These snails are named for their operculum, which forms a tough plate that protects the snail when its soft body is retracted inside.

Each shell has unique natural shades of brown and green, making them particularly great with mountain decorations or in a tall aquarium.

They can grow up to 2 inches in length and are one of the largest freshwater snails in the hobby! These snails can survive cold winters and temperatures deep enough not to freeze completely, but an aquarium chiller is not needed.

They have a tendency to climb beyond the water line, so low or investing in an aquarium cover is recommended.

The Japanese Trapdoor Snail is safe with live plants (such as Java moss and Staurogyne repens), non-aggressive live fish (like Betta and Khuli Loach), freshwater shrimp, and other aquarium snails! They are easy to feed with leftover fish food, but if there isn't enough of this in your tank, they will eat most snail food, blanched vegetables, and other aquarium food.

These peaceful snails are an excellent addition to any freshwater aquarium or pond!
