Alpaca Fiber: One of the finest fleeces in the world! What's the difference between Suri Alpaca and Baby Alpaca? There are two different types of alpaca, the Suri, and the Huacaya.

The Suri have long coats that look like those old fashioned string mops.

Suri fiber is known for its softness and drape due to the long, silky strands without much crimp.

Staple length is approximately 8.5 inches making it easy to work with for a variety of fiber arts applications.

The Huacaya have shorter, more curly coats more akin to those of sheep.

Huacaya fibers have an average staple length of 6.5 inches and plenty of crimp to make spinning a breeze.

Baby Alpaca refers the finest parts of the Huacaya fleece, not the age of the animal.

Only fibers with a thickness of approximately 20 microns are classified as Baby Alpaca, so you can be sure of ultimate softness to the touch.
