When you replace the gasket: First, you should wipe the two joint surfaces of engine and clean valve cover with a soft brush.

Second, remove the valve cover screws from both sides to the middle diagonally, pry the valve cover with a slotted knife and take out the valve cover gasket.

Finally, clean the valve cover with cleaning agent, clean the contact surface between the valve cover and cylinder head, install the valve cover gasket, apply sealant, and screw the screws diagonally from the middle to both sides.
