In the 23rd century, the highest security prison is Alpha IV, which keeps its inmates cryogenically frozen inside a giant deep space asteroid.

Captain Teegs (Maryam D'Abo) heads a ship delivering a motley bunch of hoodlums and murderers to the asteroid, but as her cargo is unloaded, an escape attempt takes place.

With one of her prisoners as her only unlikely ally, Teegs strives to restore order, and avert the release of Macmasters, the most ruthless criminal in the universe.
