Priced other brands for 2-3 times as much. This is all you need to connect your peripheral device to your PC. I transferred video from MiniDV to laptop. Resolution was not altered in any way.

Picked up the firewire cable via site-to-store. Importing from tape to AVIs worked like a charm, only thing is vaio creates 50 odd AVI files from a single 1:30 tape but easy enough to merge them.
