I only had two usb ports on the front of my computer, so I used the four port mini usb hub to add for other things. (phones, battery backup,et) and it works great. I would (and have) recommend this...

I use this with my laptop for college. It works great, I can now use the fan, my mouse, and zip drives to do my work.

There are so many peripherals that require USB ports these days (e.g., mobile phones, printers/scanners, webcams, wireless mouse devices, wireless keyboards, flash drives, and on and on and on...)....
