Does anyone know if sticky traction tape can be safely applied? Only complaint is how slippery the surface is.

I never could find the information r3egarding what ambient temp turns the unit on and when it is warm enough to turn itself off. I wish it came on earlier, before it was so cold that your hands almost freeze when touching the cold metal perch, thus drawing off warmth into the (metal) perch. I ass...
