We liked this so much, we just got a third one! The easel is adjustable to stand on the table or to stand upright on the ground. We love it when we go camping. You will need a backboard. A cardboard flap is fine. It depends on the size of the paper you use.

I purchased this kit as a Christmas gift for my neice. It seems to have everything she asked for at a reasonable price. I will let you guys know how she responds to it after she opens it. Look for an update shortly after Christmas.
