A student of Raul Borges, the originator of Venezuela' s Spanish guitar tradition, in the late-1940s, Diaz has continued to garner international acclaim for his instrumental wizardry.

He is closely associated with Andres Segovia, with whom he worked for a period of seven years before going out on his own.
