    Takes a while to get the plot moving but it eventually does. Some plot items need more explaination/closure but overall a decent read despite the shortcomings.     Serviceable, but not that great. Clarke is still a good storyteller, but here he treads over the same ground as in 2001. I like his attention to detail (batteries DO die eventually, as do main characters when faced with a Mongol army), but this story is fairly predictable and passionless.
