We used this as a make and take for our Art Festival. I did assemble the spinner part ahead of time. The kids colored them then we added the stick and some ribbons around the top of the stick and they were a big hit.

I recommend you use acrylic paints and not permanent markers. The markers take too long to use and they tend to run or bleed into the wood grain. Painting also helps protect the wood for weather exposure.
