Took me a while to get into this book, but enjoyed it after all. The story is not very surprising unfortunately.

Solid read. A bit better than Jarka Ruus. At points I wished Brooks would get a bit deeper into certain subjects/events, but mostly it remained on the surface; which is OK, too.

For me, this might have been the best book of the series. Even though it reminded me of Elfstones in places, I still found the characters and the plot to be compelling. If you are a Brooks fan, and like his simple, clear characters and straightforward plots, you'll enjoy this one.
