This device was part of a package and came with the flip. I am so happy that I got it. you can put it on the table and record and it doesn't shake OR you can wrap the legs around anything and record from above or beside the subject!!!!!!!!!!!!1

A little 6 inch tripod seems like it might not be worth it but it helps when you want to not hold the camera. I have found the action mount, however to be even better, since you can use the straps to go on anything. I used it to go around a small board to just set down anywhere or use as a handle...
