I generally love Wilbur Smith's writing, and his Ancient Egypt series is one of my favorites. Nevertheless, The Quest was irritating, exceedingly overwritten, and a bit dull. Avoid. It is dull and unexciting. At no point in the book do you feel as if Taita is going to come in contact with a problem that is even remotely unfixable with a little magic after he has agonised long enough about it.

By far the worst in the "Taita" egyptain series. A retread of previous books, I wonder if Smith has started to lose his touch. Usually we have multi-layered interwoven plots but not in this novel. Very disappointing.

This was one of my book club books. I initially didn't like it at all as I felt it was too far fetched. Then I became quite involved in it and thoroughly enjoyed it. After all a book doesn't have to be real.
