I mounted it on the right of the cockpit on an angle so the front tip of the paddle is in line with the front tip of the kayak. My thinking is it won't protrude and snag up on brush and overhanging branches if coasting.

These work great on my kayak as well as my fishing boat. Holds spare/ emergency paddle fish gaff and dock hooks. Also used them to attach my new kayak seat.

Holds paddle securly. But I'm going to thru bolt it with stainless, not the supplied screws.

Bought this for my recently Walmart purchased kayak and it works great. Two screws, some alignment and snap that bad boy paddle right onto the side and you are good to go. Walmart pickup was quick and easy as always.
