If you want a freestanding CD rack you should get something else, this would be very unstable if used that way. This rack is plainly designed to be mounted on a wall and serves that purpose excellently. I've bought 5 of these from Amazon but they've restricted access to them now so I'll be buying...

Its sturdy and fits my purpose completely. I had several music cds and wanted a rack to put next to my stereo system. This worked perfect. The only complaint is there are 4 screw holes and I only got 2 screws. But it was not a big problem since I have screws already. If you don't have screws...

Contrary to what I've read, the tower is sturdy enough to stand unsupported on my desk, handy to put CDs into my boombox. I find this preferable to having it on the floor, as it's easier to read the titles, which are eye level. Though it is 20" high, it is compact & only takes little room.
