The lamp works as in the sense in which it was intended but, The appearance is horrible. I really like the look and capability of the lamp, and I read previous reviews which did state they have arrived damaged, but I took a chance. Sure enough, the lamp arrived with scratches on the shade. I would say it is the manufacturing packing that is bad, Walmart actually put it in a large box...
