    A retelling of a myth and a life story, a hybrid between legend ad history, with the settings of merry old England and the War set with human gods and the death of gods and the ends of the earth.This is quite beautiful. Recommended. I'll have to reread my old mythology books some day.

    I truly enjoyed this short reconstitution of Ragnorak, or "the end of the gods," a colorful re-telling of Norse myth. The prose is rich and descriptive, bringing the tales to vivid life. Not much plot or character, but gorgeous writing and a fascinating read.

    Byatt never fails to turn any story into poetry, and this was my first exposure to the Norse myths, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The book was a little too short, however, and could have survived a little more narrative at the expense of some of the poetry.
