    Story was slow compared to most of the Valdemar books, I'm beginning to think the author is going to resort to a club to emphasize that "Mags is special". It wasn't a bad book but it definitely wasn't a great book. Will give the author one more book to round it up and then I'm done.

I find the stories have become thin and the characters are occasionally a bit too dysfunctional. Not in this last book, I have to admit. All the annoying disagreements ...

    Sort of a filler in the Mags books -- all the stories / characters' arcs are advanced. We learn a little more about the details of Mags' mysterious background, but just details -- nothing substantive that wasn't telegraphed in the first three novels. Not much else going on.
