The dirt falls through the hole so when you pick it up, there's no shaking or cleaning of the mat

These mats look elegant. I have had one for several years and it looks as good as the new ones I just bought. The mats clean debris as well as the water hog mats I had and they are much easier to clean. The water hogs were always wet underneath when it rained.
