    This book won it's 4 stars on the second half of the book. The finish might even have tipped 4 and a half so if you are not enjoying the beginning as much as you expected, keep reading.     I have never walked the Pennine Way but I am a keen walker and so I still enjoyed the book mainly because Simon Armitage is such a good writer and an attractive personality. At times, it's just like he's telling you about it in the pub afterwards.

Simon Armitage's first and last days on the trail, and particularly the legs from about Dufton to Hawes, included some of the best writing about walking that I have read. ...
