I had read Brad Meltzer's The President's Shadow, which I liked less than The Fifth Assassin. The recurring character of Beecher White as a Washington, DC archivist performing as a detective is clever. It works really well. Like the way Caleb Carr used an alienist in his book, The Alienist.
