Fabulous characters, no action, witty, funny, intellectual.

Someone wrote that fiction succeeds when it "vaults you over the wall of self." That's what Davies does, at least. He understands people, and writes characters from the inside out. This novel has almost no engine driving the plot -- but his insight into character and his humor make it memorable. ...
