The dedication of this man to define the mystery of the Aurora borealis is unbelievable and enviable. Unfortunately his focus consumed his very existence, leaving little room for love, happiness or even common day to day occurences. This is a great story but very sad too.

Great biography/natural science book. I wish the author had included more about what people thought about the northern lights throughout history, before the 1800s, and a bit more about what we've discovered about them since Birkeland's discoveries 100 years ago.
