Batteries will not charge, even when using an external charger. Radios don't work even with new batteries that work in other devices.

Bought these so my elderly mother would be able to contact me in case of medical emergency during the night. They are ridiculously short-lifed battery hogs...have to change batteries about every 48-72 hours. And these are only turned on during the night, mind you. Unless you want to buy batteries...
