    Interesting read, but not an earthshaking work of literature. With Robert Stone's reputation, I expected better. Simple, meandering plot and shallow characters. Contained some strange religious elements that didn't fit or go anywhere towards enhancing the story.

    I had to reread parts of this book several times because I could not make sense of what was going on. The characters are flimsy at best. There was not a psychological thriller or a crime novel - it was more of a junior college level theology debate. I expected a whole lot more from this book.
