After the straightforward thrills of the maniac serial killer of The Seventh Woman, this begins with a much more intriguing set-up, though the novel then continues as an exhaustive and therefore pretty ho-hum police procedural. The denouement is underwhelming.

This is a good story. The story is well paced and very plausible. Th one drawback is that the characters seem a bit flat without a lot of personality.
