I really liked this book, the premise is cool and I liked the "magic" system in the book. there is even a sick battle scene ☺ and the romance didn't even bother me, pretty good read

The sequel is much more implausible and gets more bogged down in discussions and explanations. Again, as a result of taking the Amrit, Miles is suddenly upgraded from 'ordinary human' to 'awesome superhero' just like Juneau. And all this helps them rather conveniently to beat the bad guys.
