I didn't find this book as exciting or enjoyable as many others seem to have found it. It was a bit confusing and surreal in description. Perhaps this is a style design by Ondaatje but I would have trouble recommending this book to others.

Unfortunately the many virtues that others see in this book were invisible to me. I found it disjointed, pretentious in its style and unengaging in its characters.
