this scanner works great for the bands and frequencies I like to listen to. However if you want to monitor police and fire calls you may want to check your area as many locations use digital and in some cases encrypted signals and this unit will not work for those transmissions.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves to listen to a scanner. I'm a dispatcher and my mom-n-law wanted to listen to me on the radio so I bought her this scanner for Christmas and she is loving every minute of it!
